Classification Title: Exercise Science: Contract Instructor-College Credit. Working Title: Assistant Professor, Exercise Science, Women’s Volleyball. Department/School: School of Exercise Science/Health Education/Athletics. Location: San Diego Mesa College. FLSA Status: Exempt. Position Type: Academic. Posting Date: 09/30/2025. Travel/assignment notes: Assignment may include day, evening, and Saturday classes. Tenure/Promotion: Typically, Assistant Professors earn tenure after 4 years and promote to Associate Professor. Salary: Class 1, Step C – Class 6, Step C ($6,933.44 - $8,849.03) per month, based on the 2024 AFT - College Faculty Tenured-Tenure Track Salary Schedule. Initial salary placement is commensurate with required education and teaching experience and is non-negotiable. Benefits: Comprehensive fringe benefits (medical, dental, vision, sick leave, PD opportunities) under the AFT-Guild, Local 1931. This position is FLSA Exempt and may not accrue overtime. The District notes annual salary adjustments for partial academic years per Education Code §87815. Travel reimbursement for interviewees traveling >200 miles one-way may be paid per the SDCCD Travel Stipend Policy. The Assistant Professor, Physical Education position reports to the Dean, School of Exercise Science, Health Education, Dance and Athletics. Primary teaching responsibilities include physical education, health education, fitness specialist, and/or other department classes as required. Additional duties include teaching, committee participation, curriculum development, community outreach, and related assignments. Coaching responsibilities include leadership and direction for the women’s volleyball team, monitoring student-athlete academic progress, preparing the sport budget, arranging transportation, scheduling intercollegiate events, attending athletic department and conference meetings, promoting the volleyball program with high school coaches and athletes, recruiting student-athletes, and participating in athletic department PR and fundraising. Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise or adaptive physical education OR Bachelor’s in any of the above AND Master’s in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy OR The equivalent.

Desired Qualifications

Academic preparation and teaching experience in exercise science, health education, and/or fitness specialist. Academic preparation and teaching experience in volleyball theory classes. Coaching experience in volleyball at high school level or above. Experience in organizing and conducting a successful recruiting program at the college level. Experience in developing and monitoring a budget. Knowledge and/or experience in designing strength and conditioning programs. A California Class B Driver’s License or willingness to obtain one prior to the coaching season. Equivalency and Licenses
