Recruitment Range: $64,621 - $98,000 We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to fill an immediate opening in our architectural review team. This is an opportunity to use and develop your knowledge of codes to regulate licensed facilities throughout the State of North Carolina. The work that you do will help to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens in all of our 100 counties. DHSR Construction Section regulates the physical plant compliance of all licensed health care, residential care and jail facilities in North Carolina. Our Mission Statement is centered on making sure that all patients, residents and inmates are provided with a safe and suitable environment. Blending office time with travel time in the field, this position is for a motivated and energetic person who wants to be a part of a team that impacts positive changes for the citizens of North Carolina. Responsibilities

Perform plan reviews of licensed health care facilities, residential facilities, and jail facility construction and renovation projects for compliance with regulations that come under the Division's regulatory responsibilities including hospitals, nursing homes, mental health facilities, adult care homes, and local confinement facilities.

Provide regulatory consultation to owners and designers of regulated facilities.

Make on-site inspections throughout the state to determine that regulated facilities are constructed and functioning in accordance with established rules and standards. This position requires occasional travel within the State (2-3 days a month), including some overnight travel.

Develop knowledge and understanding of the licensure rules for each of the facility types licensed by the Division, NFPA codes/standards, and building codes.

Remain current on all changes to rules, codes, regulations, policies, guidelines, procedures, etc. related to the facilities.

Review and enforce licensure rules and codes as they relate to the construction documents and verify that the appropriate rules and codes are being met.

Develop knowledge and correct use of the Construction Sections work processes and procedures.

Communicate with owners, facility administration, design professionals, the public, etc. with questions, problems, etc. in person or by phone.

Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Physical abilities to inspect buildings in their entirety.

Ability to read and understand building blueprints and specifications.

Bachelor's degree in architecture or an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of related experience as a registered architect; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience. Necessary Special Qualifications - Valid license to practice architecture granted by the North Carolina Board of Architecture.
