Overview
The City of Ontario is seeking a Deputy Finance Director who will play a vital leadership role in advancing the City’s financial operations and ensuring long-term fiscal stability. With an operating budget of $1.65 billion and a $2.88 billion, five-year capital improvement program, the City requires a Deputy Finance Director who can balance technical expertise with strong interpersonal skills. As a member of the Agency’s management team, the Deputy Director will oversee key operational functions, including accounting, accounts payable, grant management, and payroll, as well as other Finance divisions, under the administrative direction of the Assistant Finance Director and Executive Director of Finance. The ideal candidate will be approachable, flexible, and solutions oriented; someone who can pivot to meet emerging challenges while keeping the City’s long-term financial health in focus. This leader will have the opportunity to strengthen succession planning, serve as a mentor and coach to early-career finance professionals, invest in the growth of their team while also helping other City departments better understand financial processes. As a key strategic partner across the organization, the Deputy Finance Director will be a trusted force - cultivating strong relations, demonstrating impactful leadership, and driving meaningful results to fuel the growth of the City of Ontario!

Serve as a strategic partner across the organization, cultivating relationships and driving meaningful results to support the City’s financial health and growth.
Qualifications
Experience in municipal finance leadership with strong technical expertise and interpersonal skills.
Ability to balance strategic planning with day-to-day financial operations.
Ability to mentor teams and collaborate across City departments.
