The City of Beverly Hills is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of

Senior Water System Worker

to organize, assign, and review the work of assigned staff engaged in repair and maintenance of water distribution processes; to perform maintenance duties including planning, monitoring, and maintaining the City’s water distribution operations and meter system; and to provide highly responsible technical or maintenance support to assigned supervisor. The incumbent of this position must be a responsible team player, with the ability to learn, interpret and apply relevant procedures and regulations. Employees receive 2% of their annual base pay to support their personal wellness. Annual Cost of Living Adjustments:

All MEA employees automatically receive a base salary increase of 4.5% annually, with the next increase scheduled for October 1, 2025. Holidays:

80 - 160 hours per year (depending on length of service). Disaster Service Workers: All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in an emergency. Examples of Essential Duties Plan, prioritize, and review the work of staff assigned to a variety of water distribution system maintenance duties. Develop schedules and methods to accomplish assignments ensuring work is completed in a timely and efficient manner. Participate in evaluating the activities of staff, recommending improvements and modifications. Provide and coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies. Coordinate activities with contractors and the warehouse department; create traffic control plans. Inspect and participate in the relocation, maintenance, installation, repair or removal of water mains, water services, fire hydrants, water meters, valves and related appurtenances to ensure City’s technical standards are followed; perform safety inspections of vehicles and equipment. Operate construction equipment and various hand and power tools to perform installations, maintenance and repairs to the City’s water distribution system; break and remove asphalt; excavate and backfill trenches; pour and finish concrete; and install cold patch on asphalt. Work with staff to resolve difficult maintenance problems; respond to emergency situations. Requisition and purchase necessary supplies and equipment; complete work orders; assign reports and perform various specialized recordkeeping functions using the asset management system. Evaluate work projects to ensure compliance with local, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations. Contact customers to address and resolve complaints. Respond to emergency situations during and outside of working hours, as required. Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols, methods, and procedures. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers, other City employees and the public using principles of good customer service. Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade. Licenses, Certifications Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid California Class B driver\'s license or out-of-state equivalent. Possession of a valid State Water Resources Control Board Grade D3 Distribution Operator certificate. Possession of a valid State Water Resources Control Board Grade T2 Water Treatment certificate. Knowledge of : Principles and practices of technical and functional supervision and training. Relevant local, State and Federal laws, rules and regulations related to area of assignment. Methods and procedures involved in the operation, repair and maintenance of water distribution systems. Principles and practices of the maintenance of water plants, wells and pumps. Principles and methods of electrical systems, plumbing and hydraulics. Principles and methods of service connection, and backflow prevention devices and methods. Safety methods and procedures. Recordkeeping and report preparation. Ability to : Perform the most complex duties related to maintenance of water distribution operations. On a continuous basis, know and understand maintenance activities and observe safety rules; intermittently, analyze problem equipment; identify safety hazards; locate equipment; interpret work orders; remember how to operate equipment; and explain jobs to other employees. Provide technical and functional supervision over assigned staff; effectively train staff. Coordinate the activities of a water distribution system; read, test, detect, troubleshoot and repair problems. Operate heavy construction and maintenance equipment; and use a variety of hand and power tools. Read and interpret water service maps and blueprints. Safely handle and use hazardous materials. Use sound judgment in recognizing scope of authority. Operate and use standard office equipment including computers and applicable software.
