Overview
ATTENTION ALL ALASKA RESIDENTS! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region, is looking for an Engineering Assistant 3 in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving. In this position, you will work closely with Construction Project Managers to support a Project Manager in delivering projects using alternative procurement methods such as design-build, Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC), or similar approaches. The successful applicant may also be responsible for writing and/or reviewing consultant contract documents and coordinating plans and specifications with other local, state, and federal agencies. This role involves performing essential engineering functions, including plan reviews, bid analysis, field inspections, project documentation, materials testing, contractor pay estimates, and overseeing contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, standards, and policies. Overtime may routinely be required. The DOT&PF’s mission is to Keep Alaska Moving through service and infrastructure. This position supports the most critical aspects of that mission, collaborating with multiple functional groups and assisting with public and agency meetings to ensure successful construction of capital improvement projects in the Central Region. The working environment includes outdoor work in inclement weather, extended shifts, potential travel to remote sites, and exposure to heavy equipment, dust, and noise with appropriate safety precautions. Responsibilities
Work closely with Construction Project Managers to deliver projects using alternative procurement methods (e.g., design-build, CM/GC). Write and/or review consultant contract documents and coordinate plans and specifications with local, state, and federal agencies. Perform plan reviews, bid analyses, field inspections, project documentation, materials testing, and contractor pay estimates. Oversee contractor operations to ensure compliance with plans, standards, and policies. Assist with public and agency meetings to support project delivery in the Central Region. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with a major in engineering, architecture, or land surveying from a ABET-accredited institution, or a non-ABET-accredited degree with additional requirements as specified. Two years of engineering, architectural, or land surveying experience (one year at working or intermediate trainee level) with work such as an Engineering Assistant 2, or equivalent. Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certificate or FE examination verification, if applicable. Substitutions: Four years of ABET-accredited postsecondary education and/or experience may substitute for the degree; graduate study may substitute for experience (see original spec for details).
