Overview
Inpatient Medical Coder role at Sierra7, Inc. The Inpatient Medical Coder will provide support to the Department of Veterans Affairs by analyzing and abstracting patient health records, then assigning appropriate alpha-numeric codes for diagnoses and procedures. This role requires expertise in ICD, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. This is a Part Time opportunity with a minimum commitment of 20 hours per week, scheduled at your discretion from Monday through Sunday. Responsibilities
Apply working knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and DRG assignment; code PTF charts in ICD-10 Meet minimum productivity standards with 95% accuracy across related procedures Maintain active credentials as a certified coder and complete requirements to keep credentials active Follow site-specific coding guidelines that may vary by site Receive formal training in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, pathology and disease processes, pharmacology, health record content, reimbursement methodologies, and coding systems (ICD, CPT, HCPCS) Validate data; analyze and generate reports; review and abstract health record information; ensure CPT/AMA and ICD codes and modifiers support documentation for proper data collection and reimbursement Familiarity with ICD nomenclature, CPT, SNOMED, HCPCS, JCAHO, DSM, DRC, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, lab results, and disease processes Code in VIP and with the 101, 401, 501, 601, and 701 screens Other related duties as assigned Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent Minimum of 2 years inpatient coding experience At least 6 months of Veterans Affairs or relevant government-contractor coding experience Experience using VIRR/WebVIRR Commitment to a minimum of 20 hours per week, scheduled Mon-Sun Certification
Candidates must possess one of the following certifications: American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA): RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, orClinical Modification/Procedure Coding System Trainer American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC): CPC, CPC-H, CIC Note: To be considered, applicants must have at least 6 months of VA or relevant government-contractor coding experience.
