SDSS Career Center Director, Doerr School of Sustainability, Stanford, California, United States The position is based on Stanford’s main campus with consideration for a hybrid work schedule (partially onsite and offsite), subject to operational need. The school comprises academic departments and programs, Institutes, and the Sustainability Accelerator, with a mission to generate global impact and support diverse backgrounds. SDSS seeks a seasoned professional to help build a new career center focused on sustainability career pathways, internships, and partnerships globally. The Director will report to the Senior Associate Dean, Finance and Administration, develop a strategic plan, and then lead all aspects of the career center to empower students and alumni in their career aspirations. The Director will develop and implement long-term strategies for program delivery and assessment, manage policy development, program management, data reporting, evaluation, staffing, service delivery, and stakeholder relations. The Director will partner with External Relations to build client relationships and collaborate with campus services and academic units to connect with students. Provide leadership for a new career center and lead staff delivering internship programs, recruiting, and advising services. Develop a strategic plan accessible to all Stanford students interested in a sustainability career. Oversee fiscal planning and management for the career center, including operations and staffing. Develop a staffing plan to support clients and students. Monitor, analyze, and evaluate the center’s current services; plan and direct innovative programs in coordination with student services and the Dean’s office. Develop external partnerships to expand internship and employment opportunities for students and alumni; advise and interface with business, non-profit, and government employers. Develop and supervise on-campus recruitment and interviewing processes, job/internship databases, and resources for students and alumni. Create strategies to engage the job market using workforce metrics. Coordinate communication with senior leaders, department chairs, and faculty to ensure the center meets academic unit needs; serve as primary liaison between SDSS, students, alumni, and potential employers globally. Collaborate with External Relations to engage Stanford donors and alumni. Liaise with campus career services leadership to align efforts for all Stanford students and alumni. May serve as senior advisor to the dean on programmatic and policy development; recommend internal policies, guidelines, and procedures. Required:
Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination; higher education experience preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong communication, analytical, leadership, and collaboration skills; ability to manage people; understanding of technology needs; ability to work across units. Preferred:
Master’s degree and at least 10 years of combined academic career services and/or corporate recruitment management experience; strong organizational and change-management skills; experience with data analytics, program assessment, fundraising or Development/Alumni Relations, and career services best practices; excellent written and verbal communication; technical proficiency with career management systems, databases, and Microsoft Office; demonstrated ability to work with students, faculty, administrators, and employers from diverse backgrounds. The expected pay range for this position is $145,902 to $177,678 per annum. Stanford provides pay ranges as a good faith estimate.
