The school is organized to drive global impact through academic departments and programs, Institutes, and the Sustainability Accelerator. SDSS aims to build a diverse community to generate solutions for environmental and climate challenges.
SDSS seeks a seasoned professional to help build a new career center focused on sustainability career pathways. The center will coordinate internship programs and partnerships with external organizations to expand opportunities for students and alumni. The Director will report to the Senior Associate Dean, Finance and Administration, develop a strategic plan, and lead all aspects of the career center to empower students and alumni in their career aspirations.
Your Responsibilities Include
Provide leadership for a new career center and lead staff delivering internship programming, recruiting, and advising services. Develop a strategic plan accessible to all Stanford students interested in a sustainability career.
Oversee fiscal planning and operations, including staffing. Develop a staffing plan to support clients and students.
Monitor and evaluate services; plan and direct innovative programs in coordination with student services and academic programming.
Develop external partnerships to expand internship and employment opportunities for students and alumni; advise and interface with business, nonprofit, and government employers.
Develop and supervise on-campus recruitment and interviewing processes and manage job/internship databases for students and alumni; use workforce research metrics to inform strategies.
Coordinate with senior leaders, department chairs, and faculty to ensure the center meets academic unit needs; act as primary liaison between SDSS, students, alumni, and potential employers; collaborate with External Relations to engage donors and alumni.
Liaise with campus career services leadership to align efforts for all Stanford students and alumni.
May serve as senior advisor to the dean on programmatic and policy development; recommend internal policies and procedures.

To Be Successful In This Position, You Will Need
Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination; experience in a higher education setting preferred.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Strong communication and analytical skills; ability to work with internal and external audiences and senior management.
Experience in leadership, strategic management, and people management.
Understanding of technology needs and ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree and at least 10 years in academic career services and/or corporate recruitment management.
Strong organizational, change management, and budgeting experience.
Experience with data analytics and program assessment; knowledge of best practices in university career services and diverse student populations.
Experience with fundraising or working with Development/Alumni Relations is a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills; technical proficiency in career management systems, Microsoft Office, and databases.
Commitment to inclusivity and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Compensation: The expected pay range is
$145,902
to
$177,678
per annum. Stanford provides a comprehensive rewards package; specifics discussed during the hiring process.
