Construction Management Business Class Director (Water Business Group)

The primary duty is to provide strategic focus nationally on positioning HDR as a preferred provider for construction services in the water infrastructure industry. The Director shall provide business group wide leadership regarding CM business development, project delivery and group leadership/communications. The Director shall capture and codify best practices, tools, templates, protocols and all other necessary intelligence to sustain successful Construction Management delivery across the entire Business Group. This position reports to the WBG Service Delivery Director.

Overview The role focuses on leading business development, project delivery, and leadership communication for HDR’s Water Business Group within Construction Management. It involves developing a more formulaic approach to CM business development, maintaining market intelligence, and guiding delivery practices coast to coast.

Responsibilities

Business Development: Maintain market intelligence regarding industry competition, potential partners, acquisitions and/or new hires.

Capture HDR and competition SOQs, proposals, presentations, scopes of work with associated fees.

Ensure regions maintain CM pursuit target lists and Client Maintenance plans relevant to CM delivery.

Support capture planning efforts, preproposal visits, qualifications and proposal preparation to standardize HDR CM business development and client interaction.

Provide marketing support on pursuits to elevate HDR’s selection hit rate.

Maintain List of Major CM or PM/CM or OA/CM Projects.

Maintain Tool Kit, related SharePoint sites and promote best practices/tools across the Business Group.

Implement Presentation/Interview training workshops for all Senior Construction Managers.

Project Delivery: Capture and disseminate relevant CM delivery lessons learned as necessary.

Ensure use of HDR best practices, procedures, templates and protocol for consistent CM delivery coast to coast.

Collaborate with other Business Class Directors on delivery of existing projects and develop long-term tactical plans for the water construction services program.

Provide principal level project management and issue resolution when needed.

Track and trend actual project delivery costs against budget and incorporate lessons learned into future scope/fee development.

Maintain list of CM/CI resources and availability and provide CM resource planning across the Business Group.

Lead PARR reviews for projects entering the construction phase and train staff to be Lead Reviewers.

Perform project site audits to ensure proper Construction Management protocol and address performance with the Owner.

Promote the use of the RAKEN Field Reporting App and update HDR Technical Guidelines; manage annual license renewals and resource allocation.

Promote and administer Newforma Construction Administration (Newforma CA) software for workflows and reporting; coordinate with related stakeholders.

Serve as the WBG point of contact on questions related to other Construction Management Information Systems (CMIS).

Update and maintain HDR Construction Management Manual, CM Procedures/Forms & Field Checklists; ensure CM access/use across the Business Group.

Construction Management Leadership and Communications: Reinvigorate CM Practice Community and conduct regular CM Practice Community calls; broadcast wins and lessons learned.

Collaborate with Field Services Communications Director, Construction Services Director, other CM Business Class Directors and key stakeholders; participate in Field Services Steering Committee.

Lead CMAA engagement. Represent HDR as a CMAA member and board; coordinate dues, conference sponsorships, project awards nominations, and CCM designation encouragement.

Ensure WBG CM staff development; maintain and develop CM training plans, protocols, and sessions.

Qualifications

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or Engineering with 15+ years of experience in managing construction delivery programs for the water infrastructure industry.

PE or related professional certifications are desirable.

This position can be located in any HDR US office.

Required: Bachelor’s degree in a Professional, Architecture, Engineering or closely related field.

A minimum of 10 years of experience in related field.

Maintains a professional or Engineering registration and has related technical experience.

Experience in development and management of diverse teams.

Works cooperatively with other business class directors, operations managers, technical directors and marketing managers on business class efforts.

The expected compensation range for this position is $163,422-$324,250 depending on skills, experience, education and location.

Primary Location: United States-Nebraska-Omaha. Other locations include multiple HDR US offices.
