Correctional Probation Senior Supervisor vacancy located at: 11-4 Miami North Probation and Parole Office, Miami, Florida (Miami-Dade County).

Responsibilities

The incumbent directs and supervises correctional probation officers, senior officers, specialists, supervisors and support staff supervisors and manages the operation of a large size, independent office. Monitors daily activities of staff to ensure investigative and supervision services are provided in accordance with Florida statutes, department rules, and the probation and parole manual of procedures.

Spend the majority of time communicating with, motivating, training and evaluating employees, planning and directing their work; and has authority to recommend hires, transfers, promotions, suspensions, discharges, assignments, rewards or discipline of subordinates.

Review and approve correspondence and investigations including presentence, post-sentence, other state, pre-parole, special, and other investigations for quality, accuracy and content per departmental policy and procedure. Review approvals for violation reports, affidavits, and warrant requests for offenders for quality, accuracy and content per policy. Review entries into the court ordered payment system and management information system and requests from NCIC/FCIC and DHSMV.

Distribute and review workloads to ensure consistent and uniform enforcement of supervision orders. Assign new and transfer offenders for supervision and investigations. Monitor assignments for equitable distribution. Review compliance with field supervision standards in accordance with supervision protocol.

Conduct initial, quarterly, semi-annual, annual, special and pre-termination case reviews on individual offenders; follow up as needed. Review and approve recommendations for early termination of supervision and reduction of sentence.

Accompany staff in the field as mandated to monitor compliance with field safety procedures and supervision duties. Monitor supervisory staff compliance with department policies and procedures as they relate to supervision of officers and specialists.

Supervise the implementation of policies and procedures established by the department and ensure satisfactory delivery of services. Ensure management review standards are consistently met. Hold regular staff meetings and disseminate new policies and procedures to staff as appropriate.

Evaluate employee performance and develop performance improvement plans as necessary. Counsel, motivate and guide staff. Ensure staff compliance with mandated training requirements. Review and approve requests for leave and travel vouchers. Interview applicants for employment and conduct background investigations on prospective employees.

Maintain liaison with judiciary, prosecutors, public defenders, law enforcement, treatment providers, non-profit service agencies, governmental agencies, other facilities, offices and bureaus of the department and other criminal justice representatives. Exhibit appropriate demeanor and knowledge as a representative of the department. Demonstrate sensitivity to public and victim needs and take appropriate, prompt action as required.

Correspond and negotiate with the office landlord on issues related to office lease and maintenance. Implement and follow procedures relating to office equipment operation and inventory. Ensure staff compliance with office security, safety and appearance standards. Process vendor invoices and assist in review of invoices in compliance with Florida statutes. Manage the office budget for supplies and equipment.

Direct the intake process when assigned to ensure notification and assignment of offenders placed under supervision or received for investigation are handled effectively. Supervise storage of inactive files (sealing, expunging and destruction as required).

Manage and supervise offenders as required in an officer’s absence. Conduct investigations as required when workload demands or special circumstances deem it necessary. Perform court-ordered payment receipting duties in the absence of the designated receipt writer, verify monetary collections and make bank deposits. Monitor the court-ordered payment system for exceptions as required. Handle administrative duties as assigned. Assist in the absence of the Correctional Probation Deputy Administrator. Oversee specialized programs or contracts. Attend and deliver training relevant to duties and responsibilities.

Qualifications

Essential/Entry Level KSA’s: Ability to work independently and/or under stressful conditions; ability to describe facts and events accurately; ability to communicate effectively.

Full Performance Level KSA’s: Knowledge of probation and parole and/or offender classification functions and procedures; knowledge of criminal justice system and court procedures; knowledge of techniques for advising, interviewing, and counseling; ability to assist offenders in solving problems.

Licensure, Certification, or Registration

Certified in accordance with Florida Statutes 943.13

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university

All employees in the correctional probation officer classes shall possess a valid driver’s license as a condition of employment in accordance with 33-208.402, Florida Administrative Code and Section 322.03(3) Florida Statutes.
