(Tenure-Track) Assistant Professor, Department of Kinesiology, Sonoma State University. Starting August 2026. Location: Sonoma. Work type: Instructional Faculty – Tenured/Tenure-Track. Category: Tenured/Tenure-Track, Full Time, Unit 3 CFA – California Faculty Association. Faculty Responsibilities

In addition to teaching and scholarship, faculty are expected to engage in service to the University, profession, and community. Responsibilities include advising students, participation in campus and system-wide communities, maintaining office hours, collaborating with colleagues, and participating in traditional academic functions. The Department supports undergraduate research and encourages faculty to mentor students. Faculty are expected to advance the CSU Graduation Initiative 2025 through excellent teaching, advising, and mentoring. Proficiency in working in a multicultural environment is required. The Department of Kinesiology offers a Bachelor of Science with three concentrations: Exercise Science/pre-Physical Therapy; Interdisciplinary/pre-Occupational Therapy; Lifetime Physical Activity. A Biomedical Engineering minor (with Engineering Sciences) will accept students January 2026. The program aims to prepare students for leadership, further study, and careers in teaching, coaching, health and fitness, sport industries, and movement science. Duties of the Position

Main teaching responsibility: Lifespan Motor Development. Additional teaching may include research methods, physical activity for diverse populations, aging and disability, health and wellness across the lifespan, foundations of kinesiology, personal fitness and wellness, and physical activity courses. Opportunities exist to develop new courses or contribute in areas of specialization. Responsibilities also include developing a line of research, writing grant proposals, advising students, and participating in department and university service. Preferred: develop a physical activity program for older adults and active participation in professional organizations in kinesiology or related fields. Required Qualifications

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have: Ph.D. in Kinesiology or closely related field with expertise in motor development and physical activity across the lifespan Interdisciplinary approach to teaching and research in Kinesiology, with knowledge from social and biological/physical sciences Evidence of successfully teaching courses in motor development, physical activity and movement across diverse populations (including older adults or individuals with disabilities) or community fitness and wellness at the university level Evidence of scholarly publications or other scholarly activities in motor development and physical activity across the lifespan Preferred Qualifications

Teaching and/or scholarship on how multiple factors inform physical activity and motor development over the lifespan Teaching and/or scholarship in health and physical activity promotion including community-based strategies Undergraduate student research involvement (mentoring, presentations, publications) Experience advising undergraduate students Experience developing, leading, or teaching community-based physical activity programs for older adults or individuals with disabilities Rank and Salary

Salary range: $84,004 to $89,779, dependent on qualifications. Rank determined by academic preparation and professional experience. Required Application Materials
