Overview

Macdonald & Company is partnering with a distinguished and established commercial real estate development and construction firm based in the north suburban Charlotte, North Carolina, to appoint a Controller. The Controller will report directly to the Chief Financial Officer and will oversee all accounting and finance responsibilities across the firm’s portfolio of properties, including financial reporting, budgeting, tax, payroll, and development and construction verticals. Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Provide insightful analysis to senior management and stakeholders, identifying trends and recommending actions. Budgeting and Forecasting:

Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and financial forecasts. Monitor financial performance, conduct variance analysis, and provide strategic recommendations to support decision-making. Cash Flow Management:

Manage cash flow and liquidity through effective monitoring and reporting. Implement strategies to optimize cash resources and ensure adequate funding for operations and projects. Financial Analysis:

Conduct comprehensive financial analysis, including profitability and feasibility studies for new projects. Present findings and recommendations to enhance financial performance and drive growth. Risk Management:

Develop and implement robust internal controls to mitigate financial risks. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies, conducting regular risk assessments. Tax and Compliance:

Oversee tax planning and compliance activities. Ensure accurate and timely filing of all tax returns, and provide guidance on tax implications for new initiatives. Team Leadership:

Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and professional development. Conduct regular performance reviews and provide coaching. ERP System Management:

Utilize ERP systems to streamline financial processes and reporting. Identify opportunities for system enhancements, implement best practices, and drive efficiency improvements. Stakeholder Engagement:

Serve as a key liaison with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate effective communication and collaboration. Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA certification preferred. Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in accounting or financial management, preferably within the real estate development or construction industry. Experience with Sage 300 is highly desirable. Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards. Proven experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis. Proficiency in ERP systems and financial software applications. Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments. Strategic thinker with a focus on operational efficiency and continuous improvement. High level of integrity and attention to detail, with strong problem-solving abilities.
