The Surgical Technologist III is an advanced level technologist with expansive knowledge of surgical procedures offered at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Acts as a member of the surgical team providing patient care to the patients undergoing surgical procedures in all areas, including complex procedures, by assisting the surgeon with instrumentation. Essential Functions The essential functions listed are typical examples of work performed by positions in this job classification. Provides surgical support to physicians and patients undergoing a surgical procedure in all surgical areas including all complex cases. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments, supplies and equipment in a timely manner. Adheres to all policies and practices for safe identification and handling of specimens and medications. Handles specimens and medications using correct technique and according to departmental policy and procedure. Provides information related to care/preparation of surgical instruments/equipment for sterilization/disinfection procedures. Performs the necessary surgical counts on sharps, small items, instruments and sponges with the circulating nurse. Prepares the surgical field by opening correct supplies and preparing instruments and equipment needed for the scheduled case. Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education : Completion of an accredited program recognized by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or formal structure surgical program. Experience : Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience License/Certification RQI Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Basic Life Support by American Heart Association (AHA) Certified Surgical Technologist by National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Technician in Surgery - Certified by National Center for Competency Testing Stanford Medicine Children's Health (SMCH) strongly values diversity and is committed to equal opportunity and non-discrimination in all of its policies and practices, including the area of employment.
