The Director, Mortgage Finance Operations is responsible for driving the daily operations of the Bank’s Mortgage Finance Lending business. This role will operationalize and manage activities on the MFL platform related to Warehouse, MSR and/or Servicing Advance, and Early Buyout financing facilities utilizing fundamental business risk management principles. In partnership with the Bank’s leadership team, the role will contribute to the strategy to expand the mortgage finance lending portfolio to ensure strong credit quality and profitability. This position reports to the SVP, Banking Loan Operations leader.
Responsibilities
Develop and lead daily operations of the Mortgage Finance Lending platform, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance for Warehouse, MSR and/or Servicing Advance and EBO facility types.
Onboard new facilities and oversee the on-going asset or aggregate level funding, shipping and payoff functions associated with each facility.
Manage seller, custodian and investor relationships related to treasury, deposit and collateral activities.
Prepare and ensure timely and accurate internal and external reporting to key stakeholders for the mortgage finance business aligned with regulatory and business requirements.
Apply risk management principles to all operational activities to safeguard credit quality and mitigate exposure.
Collaborate with Bank leadership to translate strategic goals into operational plans that support portfolio growth and profitability.
Monitor performance metrics and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
Support audits, examinations, and regulatory reviews related to mortgage financing operations.
Stays informed on industry trends, regulatory updates, and best practices that may impact mortgage finance operations.
Appropriately assesses risk when business decisions are made, including but not limited to compliance and operational risk. Demonstrates consideration for Cenlar’s reputation as well as our clients, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to policy and business guidelines, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues, as well as effectively supervising the activity of others and creating accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
Grow and manage the MFL operations team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and accountability within the organization.
Ensures all activities are in accordance with Cenlar’s approved risk appetite statement and applicable compliance and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or related field or equivalent years’ experience
10+ years’ experience in warehouse lending, mortgage banking, or related financial services
Comprehensive understanding of mortgage origination processes, secondary market operations, warehouse lending principles, and mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuation and financing
Strong knowledge of mortgage regulations including TILA, RESPA, HMDA, and GSE requirements
Demonstrated experience in loan-level credit underwriting and risk management for mortgage originators and servicers
Experience in implementing, integrating or building mortgage warehouse system operations within an enterprise framework
Ability to think strategically and execute tactically
Excellent analytical and mathematical skills
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to use strong reasoning and problem-solving skills to develop mutually acceptable solutions
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with a hands-on approach to work
