The Director of Quality - Automotive is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the organization’s quality assurance and quality control systems to ensure compliance with industry standards, customer expectations, and regulatory requirements. This leadership role drives continuous improvement across manufacturing, engineering, and supply chain operations, ensuring that all products meet stringent quality specifications and safety standards typical of the automotive sector. The position reports to the Director of Operations. Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

Define and execute the company’s quality vision, policies, and objectives in alignment with business goals. Lead, mentor, and develop the quality department, fostering a culture of quality across the organization.

Quality Systems & Compliance

Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and other applicable standards. Maintain and continually improve the Quality Management System (QMS). Coordinate and prepare for internal, customer, and regulatory audits.

Product & Process Quality

Oversee methods to inspect, test, and evaluate products and production equipment. Ensure products meet quality standards through monitoring performance, customer complaints, field returns, and warranty data. Establish and manage corrective and preventive action systems.

Continuous Improvement

Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving using tools such as 8D, FMEA, PPAP, SPC, and APQP. Partner with engineering, production, and suppliers to drive process and product improvements. Apply Lean Six Sigma principles to reduce variation, defects, and waste.

Supplier Quality Management

Manage the supplier quality assurance program, including audits, approvals, and performance reviews. Collaborate with the supply chain team to resolve issues and improve supplier performance.

Reporting and Other Duties

Prepare and present quality reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing performance data. Support customers and the business through additional assignments as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field. Minimum 10 years of progressive quality management experience in the automotive industry, including interaction with OEMs and Tier 1 customers. Certifications: Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Black Belt, ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, or similar credentials preferred. Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of IATF 16949, ISO 9001, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, SPC, and related automotive quality standards. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and quality tools for root cause analysis and corrective action. Leadership & Management: Proven ability to lead and mentor quality teams across multi-site operations. Skilled in project and change management. Analytical & Problem-Solving: Exceptional critical-thinking skills with attention to detail, capable of analyzing complex systems, identifying risks, and implementing solutions. Communication & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities; able to convey information clearly in reports, meetings, and presentations. Strong collaboration skills with internal teams, suppliers, and customers. Work Environment & Travel: Ability to work effectively in both office and manufacturing floor settings. Approximately 25% domestic travel (air and driving) required; occasional international travel may be required. Physical & Safety Requirements
