Overview
Principal Hardware Engineer Mechanical - 16275 - R10206820-2 at Northrop Grumman. This on-site role is part of the Defense Systems Sentinel Program's Command and Control (C2) Hardware Engineering team, located in Colorado Springs, CO or Roy, UT. The team designs a diverse set of custom and commercial-off-the-shelf systems and components and collaborates with Hardware, Electrical, and Mechanical engineering peers. Responsibilities
Incorporates edits and redlines to existing designs Facilitates ingestion of supplier drawings into the Sentinel program tool set and workflow Develops basic data and creates preliminary layouts, sketches, and notes to present design proposals Investigates design factors such as manufacturability, material availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-weight efficiency, and contractual specifications; coordinates with affected organizations Produces layouts of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures; checks layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and calculation/dimensioning accuracy Identifies design errors/omissions and recommends revisions or improvements to responsible engineers or designers Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field with 5 years of experience; or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience; PhD with 1 year of experience U.S. citizenship with an active DoD Secret Clearance (investigation date within the last 6 years) Ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP) Experience CAD modeling with Siemens NX or equivalent Experience with CPLM Teamcenter or similar Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Projects, PowerPoint, Excel, Word) Experience working with COTS hardware and suppliers Ability to understand and interpret requirements Preferred Qualifications
Ability to work independently in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing requirements Strong interpersonal, written, and presentation skills to convey complex concepts Exposure to missiles program requirements and propulsion considerations Proficiency with 3D design/2D drawing CAD in NX Proficiency with PDM and/or CPLM Proficiency with GD&T and ASME Y14.5-2009 Additional Information
Primary Salary Range: $86,600.00 - $136,800.00. Northrop Grumman notes that base pay offers depend on scope, responsibilities, candidate experience, education, and market conditions. Overtime, shift differential, and discretionary bonuses may apply. Benefits include health, life and disability insurance, a savings plan, company holidays, and PTO. The application period is estimated to be 20 days from the posting date, subject to change. Relocation assistance may be available. Clearance: Secret. Travel: Yes, up to 10% of the time.
