The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various heavy machinery and equipment used in our recycling operations.
This position requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently to ensure the continuous operation of our equipment.

Weitsman Recycling is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team.
The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing various heavy machinery and equipment used in our recycling operations.
This position requires a strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, as well as the ability to work independently and efficiently to ensure the continuous operation of our equipment.

Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on heavy equipment, including loaders, excavators, bulldozers, and material handlers.
- Diagnose repair,and maintain diesel engines and heavy equipment including forlifts, excavators, cranes, dozers and grapples.
- Conduct thorough inspections and tests to identify potential problems and perform necessary repairs or replacements of defective parts.
- Rebuild and overhaul major components such as engines, transmissions, pumps, cylinders, motors and electrical systems and hydraulic systems in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts inventory, and equipment history.
- Collaborate with other team members to prioritize repair and maintenance tasks based on operational needs and deadlines.
- Safely operate and maintain tools such as torches, presses, pullers, winches, jacks, and lifts within capacity limits
- Clean radiators, filter housings, and other components using compressed air or other approved methods.
- Perform general labors and maintenance tasks such as lifting, shoveling, sweeping, stacking, and cleaning to maintain a safe and organized working environment. .
- Perform minor repairs as needed to keep equipment safe, service ready and operational.
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and implement corrective action to prevent reoccurance.
- Stay updated on industry developments and technological advancements in heavy equipment maintenance to implement best practices and improve efficiency.
- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in heavy equipment mechanics or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, preferably in a recycling or construction environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed.
