General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to assist with patient care, demonstrating strong organizational skills, professionalism, and excellent customer service. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, multitasks effectively, and applies critical thinking to support clinical operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling. Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document medical histories accurately. Serve as a communication link between patients and providers, managing phone inquiries and relaying test results. Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as directed. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures per provider instructions. Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, and referrals promptly. Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked. Educate patients on electronic health record portals and assist with enrollment. Support orientation and training of new medical assistants. Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance. Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred. Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential from an accredited organization such as AMT is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Exposure to infectious diseases and occasional challenging interactions may occur.
