General Summary
The Medical Assistant operates within their scope of practice to deliver patient care as delegated by clinical staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling. Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document patient histories accurately and promptly. Manage phone communications, route messages, and assist with patient inquiries and test result follow-ups. Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed. Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals in a timely manner. Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked. Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment. Support orientation and training of new medical assistants. Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and reliability while maintaining focus under pressure.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is also necessary.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not mandatory. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
Certification as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) is preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This position requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Exposure to infectious diseases and challenging patient interactions may occur.
