CVICU RN Job Details – Lexington, KY

  • Location: Lexington, Kentucky 40536 (Central Kentucky healthcare jobs)
  • Facility Setting: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Assignment Type: Locum tenens travel nursing contract
  • Start Date: November 4, 2025
  • End Date: February 10, 2026
  • Contract Duration: 14 weeks
  • Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM), 3 shifts/week (36 hours/week)
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1910 - $1960
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2
  • Unit Size: 44 beds
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, adults, geriatrics
  • Local Traveler Radius: Must reside outside a 75-mile radius of Lexington, KY

Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Active Kentucky or Compact RN license (required at time of application)
  • Minimum 2 years of recent CVICU nursing experience
  • Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (CCRN preferred)
  • Proficiency with ECMO, intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP), and advanced cardiac devices preferred
  • Must pass EKG onboarding, advanced math, medication/pharmacology, ICU, and CVICU competency exams
  • One reference from a charge nurse or supervisor required
  • COVID-19 and flu vaccinations required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
  • No licensure issues accepted
  • Must disclose prior employment at this facility during application

CVICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to critically ill cardiovascular patients
  • Manage and monitor patients with heart and lung transplants, CABG, STEMI/NSTEMI, ARDS, heart failure, vascular procedures, and advanced therapies (ECMO, LVAD, IABP, EKOS)
  • Perform arterial and central line management, ventilator management, titration of cardiac drips, and interpretation/management of dysrhythmias
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, and rapid response
  • Float within the hospital or to affiliate hospitals as needed
  • Participate in ongoing education, orientation, and annual competency modules
