Overview The Manager of Gas Restoration oversees and coordinates all activities related to the restoration of gas service following planned or emergency outages. This role ensures safe, efficient, and timely restoration of service while maintaining compliance with regulatory and safety standards. The manager leads a team of field personnel and collaborates with internal departments, emergency services, and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Supervise daily operations related to gas restoration, including scheduling, dispatching, and field crew management.

Manage, train, and develop a team of gas restoration supervisors, paving coordinators, and support staff.

Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Communicate with customers, municipalities, emergency responders, and regulatory agencies during restoration events.

Develop and maintain emergency response and restoration plans.

Analyze restoration data and prepare reports on performance, compliance, and improvement opportunities.

Manage budgets and resource allocation for restoration operations.

Core Tasks

Lead and manage gas restoration work and direct field crews during restoration activities.

Ensure proper deployment of personnel, equipment, and materials; monitor progress and adjust plans to meet safety and restoration goals.

Enforce adherence to OSHA, DOT, DPU, and company safety standards; conduct safety audits and incident investigations.

Serve as the primary point of contact for internal departments, customers, and external agencies during restoration events.

Develop and maintain gas restoration plans and procedures; track restoration metrics (e.g., duration, customer impact).

Oversee procurement and maintenance of restoration tools and equipment.

Manage performance by reviewing and evaluating work, communicating expectations, and driving accountability.

Ensure compliance with company work rules and labor contracts; address grievances and disciplinary actions as needed.

Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, and Integration management to ensure systems and processes function as designed.

Improve processes and streamline operations; maintain reports and department metrics; ensure 100% SOP compliance.

Safety & Compliance Management (with DPU Integration)

Ensure full compliance with Massachusetts DPU regulations (e.g., 220 CMR 101.00) and federal pipeline safety standards (49 CFR Part 192).

Adhere to state-specific requirements (D.T.E. 98-22) and oversee contractor compliance with DPU oversight rules, including qualifications, training, and performance monitoring.

Ensure restoration activities align with the Massachusetts Gas Distribution Code; prepare for and respond to DPU audits, inspections, and incident investigations with complete records.

Maintain a safe, efficient, and environmentally sound workplace; conduct monthly safety meetings and ensure all related standards are understood and followed.

Remain familiar with federal, state, and company codes and standards to ensure regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

Demonstrated leadership capabilities in managing groups, motivating employees, and fostering teamwork; effective communication with honesty, fairness, and timely feedback; experience in personnel development and performance management.

Education:

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and related experience; Master’s degree is desirable.

Experience:

Minimum of ten (10) years of electric and/or gas utility or related experience; five (5) years in a management/leadership capacity is highly desirable.

Licenses & Certifications:

Valid Motor Vehicle Operator license; required to obtain and maintain Operator Qualifications.

Working Conditions

Must be available for emergency restoration assignments as required.

Must be available to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. Salary is commensurate with experience. This position is eligible for a potential incentive. The annual salary range is

$141,800.00 – $157,550.00 .
