Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Civil/Structural Engineering
WSP USA is seeking a Senior Consultant, Ports and Marine Engineering to join our National Maritime Practice Group. This position can be based out of the following offices: Irvine, San Diego, San Francisco - CA, Miami - FL, Portland - OR, Seattle - WA, Houston - TX. The successful candidate will provide engineering support to other technical staff, engineers, and project managers for the development, design, construction, and or inspection of structures and facilities for port, marine, and intermodal rail terminal projects in the public and private sector. Responsibilities: Provide leadership for engineering tasks including collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from the physical work site, survey data, technical reports and drawings, and or other data matrices for project development, design, and construction. Lead development of construction plans and schedules, specifications, and cost estimates for ports and marine projects. Lead cross-functional teams to execute project work on a mid-level project and/or multiple concurrent smaller projects. Write technical reports, generating complete and concise documentation of findings, using sketches, calculations, excel spreadsheets, technical drawings, and other engineering software. Apply higher-order engineering techniques/practices to develop project design requirements, while incorporating marine-practice engineering standards and specifications. Create simplified and advanced computer structural analytical finite element models, for design of fixed and floating marine structures. Prepare design documentation of individual structural components including steel and concrete deep foundation systems as well as substructure and superstructure elements. Prepare project task budgets and schedules for review. Prepare and give presentations to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external team members as well as clients. Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Conduct overwater and/or over-deck inspections of port terminals and visually assess the conditions of elements. Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, from ABET accredited program. 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in engineering discipline with demonstration of marine project-specific design experience. EIT or similar certification/licensure. Demonstrated ability in analysis and design of marine related projects including proficiency in SAP2000 and/or equivalent commercially available finite element software. Demonstrated experience with AutoCAD and REVIT and other related BIM tools. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Proficient in technical report writing.
