Overview
Tax Auditor - Sacramento for the California Franchise Tax Board (FTB). This role involves learning all phases of tax audit work by conducting audits of taxpayers to determine the correct amount of tax in accordance with Federal & California tax laws, audit standards, and regulations. The position offers opportunities to advance auditing skills, collaborate with a diverse workforce, and travel as needed. FTB provides a comprehensive compensation package and may offer teleworking and flexible work hours to support work-life balance. CPA certification may be pursued using general qualifying experience in accordance with the California State Board of Accountancy rules and regulations.
Responsibilities Conduct audits of taxpayers' books and records using FTB resources and computer systems.
Plan, organize, and manage the audit inventory to ensure audits are completed within specified time frames.
Gather information and documents and prepare audit reports.
Analyze facts and make appropriate audit determinations based on research and application of tax law and other applicable authority.
Confer with taxpayers and/or their legal representatives to request and discuss pertinent information by mail, telephone, or in person.
Communicate audit findings to the taxpayer and/or their legal representative, both in writing and verbally.
Position Details Location: Sacramento County (Hybrid telework).

Salary ranges: $4,695.00 - $6,173.00 A; $5,805.00 - $7,632.00 B.
Desirable Qualifications: Knowledge of Federal and State tax laws; auditing or tax research experience; excellent written and verbal communication; strong interpersonal and analytical skills; good organizational and time management skills; ability to travel for in-state and/or out-of-state field audits; proficiency with Microsoft Office.
