Health Management Associates is looking for a

Controller

reporting directly to the CFO to support our finance and accounting teams. This position has a strong preference for location in the greater Chicago area. HMA is a dynamic, national healthcare consulting firm at the leading edge of public healthcare. We support providers, payers, government agencies, technology companies, delivery systems and foundations in improving the publicly funded healthcare system. Our teams work with health and hospital systems, primary care providers, managed care organizations, vendors and others navigating delivery system reform and transformation, including trends such as value-based measures and integration of community-based partners into comprehensive systems of care. Job Summary

The Controller position is responsible for managing the accounting functions of the organization. This includes the periodic reporting of financial results, maintenance of the underlying accounting records and continual assessment of internal controls. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of GAAP and experience with consolidated entities, private equity backed organizations, leveraged companies, and growth-oriented professional services. As part of the total finance & accounting team, the Controller oversees monthly client invoicing, accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger management. Responsibilities

Work Performed and Job Requirements Operational Oversight: Plan and direct the operational functions of the accounting team. Policy and Process: Ensure the adequacy of departmental policies, processes, and timelines. Financial Reporting: Manage the financial reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual results in accordance with GAAP on a consolidated basis. Financial Analysis: Perform monthly analysis of financial data. Acquisition Support: Play a supporting role in acquisition analysis, including operational and financial due diligence and business integration. Integration: Help lead the financial and operational integration of acquired companies. Compliance: Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations; establish and monitor internal controls; ensure compliance and implementation of new accounting pronouncements. Collaboration: Partner with other parts of the organization on budget processes. Relationship Management: Manage banking, debt, and auditor relationships. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, including managers, supervisors, and staff; establish team goals, monitor performance, and foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous development. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Education/Training Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred. Experience Minimum of 10 years of finance experience, including team management and process improvement. Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Knowledge of GAAP and consolidated financial reporting. Sound financial management skills. Strong judgment and decision-making skills. Excellent financial statement preparation and analysis abilities. Knowledge of business and management principles involving strategic planning, resource allocation, and leadership technique. Strong complex problem-solving skills. Superior leadership abilities. Excellent attention to detail. Exceptional oral and written communication skills. Superior interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask. The posted salary range for this role at HMA includes factors such as experience, education, training, skills, licensures, and certifications. A reasonable estimate of the existing salary range is $185,000 to $240,000 annually.
