As a Hospice Patient Care Volunteer, you will play a vital role in providing comfort, companionship, and support to individuals nearing the end of their life journey. You will work closely with the hospice care team to ensure patients and their families receive compassionate care and assistance during this challenging time. Your presence and dedication will help improve the quality of life for our hospice patients and their loved ones. Patient volunteers are needed to provide companionship, assist with light household chores, read books, listen to life stories, work on puzzles, play music, play games and/or assist in special projects.
Tasks may include:
Light housework
Pet care
Shopping
Entertainment
Activities
Any other hobbies/interests that applicant may have.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Companionship: Spend quality time with hospice patients, engaging in conversations, listening to their stories, and providing emotional support.
Respite Care: Offer caregivers a much-needed break by staying with the patient, allowing them time for self-care or errands.
Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Assist patients with tasks such as meal preparation, light housekeeping, and personal grooming, depending on their needs and preferences.
Emotional Support: Be a source of comfort and empathy, offering a listening ear and a caring presence to patients and their families.
Reading and Entertainment: Read to patients, play music, or engage in activities that bring joy and mental stimulation to patients.
Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of your visits and interactions with patients and their families.
Collaboration: Communicate regularly with the Hospice Volunteer Coordinator and the hospice care team to stay informed about patient needs and concerns.
Training and Education: Attend orientation and ongoing training sessions to enhance your understanding of hospice care, end-of-life issues, and volunteer responsibilities.
Adhere to Policies and Procedures: Follow the hospice organization's policies, procedures, and code of ethics.
Requirements:
Minimum age: 16
In-office interview
In-office orientation/training
Valid driver's license/ID
Car Insurance
Qualifications:
A commitment to the mission and values of the hospice organization.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information.
Proficiency in basic computer skills, including word processing and data entry.
Friendly and compassionate demeanor.
Reliable and punctual.
Time Commitment:
No experience required & flexible schedules ! You decide who you want to volunteer with and the hours you're available. We are very flexible. Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 1 hour per week.
