As a Medical Assistant, you will work closely with licensed nurses, physicians, and advanced practice providers to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient experiences.
General Summary
The Medical Assistant supports patient care by performing delegated clinical and administrative tasks. This position requires strong organizational skills, professionalism, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention and safe patient handling. Provide direct patient interaction such as escorting patients, obtaining vital signs and EKGs, verifying medications and allergies, and documenting medical histories and visit reasons accurately and promptly. Manage phone communications by routing messages and assisting with patient inquiries. Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers, including communicating test results and assisting with return calls. Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administration (oral, IM, SQ) as ordered. Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis. Schedule appointments, diagnostic procedures, and surgeries as directed by providers. Complete necessary paperwork, prior authorizations, referrals, and documentation timely. Monitor and maintain supply inventory and ensure exam areas are clean and well-stocked. Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment. Support orientation and training of new medical assistants. Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, adaptability, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
Education
Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory.
Experience
At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or related medical specialist is preferred. Experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
Certification and Licenses
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credentials from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) are preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Mental and Physical Requirements
This role requires considerable mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs, frequent walking, standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious diseases and occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur. Exposure to communicable diseases through blood and body fluids is common. Minimal physical discomfort is expected.
