Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Sr. Speech and Language Specialist for the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center ( DDDC ). This position will be reporting to the Principal, and is responsible for providing assessment of the communication needs of the students enrolled at the DDDC. Among the key duties of this position are the following: Conducts comprehensive assessments of the language, communication, feeding, and social needs of the students enrolled at the DDDC. Analyzes and interprets diagnostic data, including standardized and non-standardized tests, observations, and parent/teacher input. Develops and implements specific therapeutic intervention (programs). Provides direct and indirect therapy services. Monitors and documents student progress, adjusting interventions as needed. Participates in IEP meetings and parent conferences. Consults with parents, teachers, and school district Child Study Teams to ensure coordination and consistency of identified goals in the student’s Individual Educational Plans. Assists in providing behavioral programs for students with severe behavior challenges. FLSA: Nonexempt Salary Details

Salary: $36.50 - $41.04 per hour Offer Information

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience Master’s degree in speech language pathology from a program that is accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Certifications/Licenses Certification or eligibility for New Jersey certification for Speech-Language Specialist. (endorsement code: 3462) to provide service as a speech-language specialist in all public schools. Preferred Qualifications

Clinical experience with students with autism and working in a school setting. Experience with applied behavior analysis with a team approach to planning and service delivery. Knowledgeable in the implementation of augmentative and alternative communication. Certificate of Clinical Competence and NJ State Licensure in Speech Pathology. ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence ( CCC ) or Clinical Fellow (CF). Computer skills including Word Processing, Data Base, Spread Sheets, and Graphing software, and commercially made educational materials (i.e., standardized tests, language programs). Must be physically active and be on feet most of the day. Duties may involve running and playing active games with individuals with autism (ages 3 1/2 – 21 years or adults). Must be physically capable of safely providing crisis management techniques including restraining, lifting, blocking individuals with challenging behavior. Must be able to withstand blows to the chest, head, and other areas, and must be able to assist and lift physically restrain individuals with developmental disabilities. Ability to work in crowded and moderately noisy conditions with children, adolescents, adults, and staff moving about. Special Conditions

Selected candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check. In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo and authorize the University to conduct fingerprint, criminal history and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including, but not limited to: the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or the New Jersey Division of State Police, Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the University associated with the background investigations, whether required by statute or not. In accordance with state mandated requirements, candidate must be able to provide documentation of a negative Mantoux test or will be administered to the successful applicant to verify the absence of tuberculosis. In addition, the successful applicant, at the cost of the University, will be required to be inoculated against Hepatitis B unless the successful applicant waives this vaccination in writing.
