The Sr. Manager, Research Laboratory provides scientific support and assistance to research laboratories, including all critical and basic laboratory operations. The incumbent plans and implements overall laboratory policies, procedures, and services. This Lab Manager will be a key member of the Molecular Therapeutics Shared Resource (MTSR) of the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center (SCCC). Core Job Functions

Ensures efficient and effective departmental operations including department quality control and compliance adherence. Formulates and implements short- and long-range goals for the operations of the laboratories. Develops, implements, monitors, and evaluates systems to assess current and projected laboratory services. Serves as a liaison between investigators, research personnel, and staff to resolve operating problems and improve technical activities. Advises on technical procedures, techniques, and equipment, and maintains conformance with applicable operational standards. Evaluates and recommends new techniques and technologies. Manages and coordinates the activities of assigned project(s) with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and resources. Installs and maintains laboratory equipment in compliance with federal regulations. Assures that the laboratory technicians are properly trained in standard operating procedures and equipment-specific requirements. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures; ensures employees are trained on controls and University policies. Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field Experience:

Minimum 7 years of relevant experience Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others. Excellent English (verbal and written) required. Ability to shift focus between multiple projects, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines. Excellent time-management skills. Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary. Commitment to the University’s core values. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment; work in an interdisciplinary team under the Director of the Facility. Department Specific Functions

The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center seeks a Cancer Modeling – Sr. Manager, Research Laboratory to join the Cancer Modeling Shared Resource. This translational facility provides services to foster cancer research advancements and accelerate the discovery of tailored antitumor therapies. The role includes development of new service lines focused on generating state-of-the-art cancer models and supporting researchers in functional genomics, noninvasive imaging, digital pathology and disease modeling. Responsibilities include planning and implementing clinical and translational projects, preclinical implementation of cancer treatments, experimental design, procurement, and validation of services and models under the direction of the Director. Specific responsibilities include the implementation of in vivo and histopathology-related services (cancer modeling in vivo, transgenic services, noninvasive imaging, clinical chemistry assays, histopathology, in silico cancer modeling and AI). The role requires conducting research projects based on literature reviews and advances, designing key experiments, and developing new techniques while integrating with other facility services. The incumbent will train personnel, prepare SOPs, manage project resources and costs, and help develop new services and technologies while maintaining up-to-date knowledge of the field. Adherence to University and unit policies, safeguarding assets, and participation in required training is expected. Performs other duties as requested. Qualifications (Department Specific)

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in molecular biology, veterinary or biomedical sciences; Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral degree preferred. Experience:

Minimum 10 years in genetic engineering and/or animal models; experience in service provision and/or management in a research core facility is preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Proactive, helpful in all aspects of the job including communication, training, reporting, and project management. Mechanical dexterity for lab techniques. Attention to detail and accuracy in completing assignments. Strong instructional and procedural understanding; ability to follow instructions precisely. Excellent computer skills and data analysis software proficiency. Knowledge of laboratory facilities and equipment maintenance; ability to order and manage supplies and services. Self-motivated with a strong desire to learn; excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; professional, positive attitude with staff and users. Ability to train and manage people. Excellent English language skills (verbal and written). Ability to handle multiple projects, organize, and prioritize under deadlines. Ability to work independently and in a collaborative environment; ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
