Job Details

  • Location: Manchester, Connecticut 06040 (Greater Hartford area)
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Healthcare Setting: Behavioral Health Unit
  • Shift: 5x8-hour evening shifts (3:00pm – 11:00pm), block scheduling
  • Hours per Week: 40
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
  • Start Date: October 20, 2025
  • End Date: January 19, 2026
  • Patient Population: Adolescents and adults
  • Unit Census: 18-22 patients; 22 beds
  • Float: Required to other behavioral health or medical units
  • Orientation: 16 hours
  • Estimated Weekly Salary: $1950–$2100

Psychiatric Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Connecticut or compact state
  • BLS certification (required)
  • Minimum 1.5 years of recent psychiatric or behavioral health nursing experience
  • Experience with Meditech electronic documentation system (required)
  • Previous charge nurse experience preferred
  • Community hospital and LTAC (Long-Term Acute Care) experience preferred
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification preferred (training available)
  • COVID-19 vaccine and booster required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
  • Royal blue scrubs required (not provided)

Psychiatric RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver evidence-based psychiatric nursing care to patients with mental health and co-morbid addiction diagnoses
  • Manage patient care for adolescents and adults, including wound care, CPAP, Foley catheters, and diabetes management
  • Administer medications via PO, rectal, IM, IV, and SC routes
  • Monitor blood glucose and implement seclusion protocols as needed
  • Utilize physical hold protocols and provide psychoeducation to patients
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (physical therapy, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, social services, etc.)
  • Accurately document patient care in Meditech EMR
  • Float to other behavioral health or medical units as required
  • Provide weekend coverage every other weekend
  • Complete mandatory Health Stream courses and participate in ongoing clinical training
