Overview

Position located at Tarheel Challenge Academy (TCA) in New London, NC. Receives direction from the Lead Instructor. The purpose of this position is to create a safe learning environment by planning, developing and providing instruction and assessment activities for TCA Cadets, maintaining Cadet academic records, and preparing academic awards recommendations. The role includes identifying and managing course materials, reinforcing learning through activities, and administering assessment tools with personalized lesson plans. Visual aids (PowerPoint, videos, charts, graphs, maps) are used to reinforce learning. The position may involve offsite transport and supervision of Cadets for educational activities and SAT testing, as well as assisting with medical transport. Other duties include attending career and college fairs, orientation and registration, Life Skills classes, and administration of the TABE test. This is a full-time position (40 hours/week) with State Benefits.

Salary grade: NC08. Salaries may be recalculated based on education/experience, funding, and internal equity. A pay increase MAY result.

Responsibilities/Primary Duties

• Plan, develop, and provide instruction and assessment activities for TCA Cadets.
• Establish and maintain Cadet academic records; prepare Cadet academic awards recommendations.
• Identify and request/manage all course materials required for instruction.
• Reinforce subject material with additional activities; identify suitable classrooms, facilities, or materials to facilitate learning.
• Identify, develop, and administer assessment tools; develop personalized lesson plans to meet curriculum requirements.
• Use visual aids (PowerPoint, videos, charts, graphs, maps) to reinforce learning.
• Assist with transport and supervision of Cadets for offsite activities and medical transport as needed.
• Attend career and college fairs with cadets; assist with orientation/registration and Life Skills classes; assist with TABE test administration.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or GED and two years of related administrative experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Bachelor’s degree required by Community College System to teach at the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy.
• Must become certified to instruct required subjects by the Community College in accordance with guidelines in place at time of hire.
• Per 5 CFR 731, able to obtain favorable suitability and fitness determination from Tier 1 background investigation (OPM). Failure to obtain may result in termination.
• All work history and education must be documented on the application. Transcripts may be attached to supplement education/work experience.
• Transcripts: attaching is optional but recommended to credit education. International degrees/transcripts must be evaluated by a recognized service (NACES).
• Experience engaging students with differentiated instruction; classroom behavior management; lesson planning; organizational skills and maintaining student records per DPS policies.

• Management Preferences (Optional): experience in differentiated instruction, behavior management, effective lesson planning, and data-driven instruction.
• Training: Basic Course; CPR (recertify every two years); Hands-off policy training.
