Avison Young is looking for a Property Accountant to join our accounting department. The position will be responsible for managing the accounting and reporting for commercial buildings, overseeing the revenue reporting and lease accounting to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Experience using MRI/YARDI is required.
Responsibilities
Prepare financial statements Prepare monthly recoveries reconciliation Prepare bank reconciliations Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly Work on variance analysis for balance sheet and P&L Prepare banking forms as needed (or requested by Vice President Finance) - Stop Payment Requests, Bank Request Form for banking issues or discrepancies Prepare and enter journal entries - standard, recurring, reversing, adjusting, reclassing, prepaid rent, accruals Prepare sales & use tax forms and related backup schedules for accurate payments Prepare month-end AR reconciliation Prepare and calculate annual CAM/Escalation reconciliations and related billing adjustments Prepare secondary reporting schedules for depreciation, amortization, security deposits, loan schedules and balance sheet schedules Input data provided by Property Managers accurately Review leases and related accounting lease abstract forms Review and approve AR including billing adjustments and security deposit refunds Review and approve AP vendor invoices for property number, coding and approvals Review rental edits (scheduled charges) Review and input budgets Review business license/tax for accuracy and timely payment Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial statements Maintain cash balances as directed Prepare wire transfers and funding requests as needed Prepare owner distributions as needed Prepare and process monthly fees due (management, asset management, TI, etc.) Prepare audit packages for auditors and controllers Follow Avison Young and client policies and procedures Process and complete special projects as requested by leadership or clients Prepare and submit a written action plan for desk coverage during absences Assist in the review, analysis and collection of corporate accounts receivable
Qualifications
S. or B.A. degree in Business Administration or Accounting One (1) to five (5) years of Property Management Accounting Experience In lieu of a degree, 5 or more years of Property Management accounting experience
Skills
Ability to read, analyze and interpret tenant leases, management agreements, and financial narratives Ability to present information clearly and respond to questions from colleagues Ability to write reports and business correspondence Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills Strong verbal and written communication skills Customer service mindset Proficient in Yardi Voyager; proficient with Adobe, Microsoft Office (Excel)
