Overview

Vice President of Transportation role at WORLDPAC. The Vice President of Transportation is responsible for Worldpac’s national transportation operations including planning, execution, service levels, and financial performance for the movement of goods through the domestic supply chain. This role will optimize freight movement, deliveries, and reverse logistics including middle-mile (DC to branch), parcel deliveries (from DCs/Branches to Customers), and final mile (deliveries from branches to customers). This position oversees the shipment of products from 8 distribution centers to over 300 branch warehouse locations. This is a leadership role that will drive both strategy and execution across all modes, driving performance across carriers and third-party logistics providers, and implementing transportation technologies including route optimization tools and TMS solutions. The ideal candidate will lead operations that fulfill both branch locations and customer deliveries in a large, multi-branch distribution setting. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive transportation and distribution strategy aligned with organizational goals. Establish long-term objectives for logistics operations, including cost reduction, service improvement, and sustainability initiatives. Analyze freight costs, rate structures, and surcharges to drive year-over-year cost improvements and ensure adherence to budget. Design and optimize the network of movements and routes to minimize cost and lead times. Benchmark operations against industry leaders and best-in-class distribution companies outside of our industry to ensure competitive performance. Determine the operating model for Worldpac; decide where to build internal capabilities and when to outsource through 3PL partnerships. Assemble the best mix of carriers, providers, 3PLs, business partners, and software vendors to execute a best-in-class transportation network and supply chain. Operational Management Oversee the transportation network used by distribution centers to fulfill branch deliveries, ensuring timely, accurate, and cost-effective delivery. Lead route optimization programs to maximize efficiency and minimize costs for both branch fulfillment and end-customer deliveries. Manage carrier sourcing, RFQs, negotiations, and contract execution for all transportation partners including middle-mile, parcel, and last-mile. Negotiate contracts and manage relationships with third-party logistics providers, carriers, and other transportation partners. Ensure vendor compliance with service level agreements and organizational standards. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local transportation regulations including DOT, HOS, and Hazmat standards where applicable. Build visibility, tracking, and communication centers to provide reporting and ETA planning with branches and end customers. Team Leadership And Collaboration Build and lead a high-performing transportation and distribution team, fostering accountability and continuous improvement. Provide mentorship and development opportunities for direct reports and key personnel. Partner with other functions, especially the Distribution Center team, Branch team, Procurement, and Inventory Management to articulate and execute objectives and implement countermeasures. Lead change management, project activities, and system enhancements which generate year-over-year improvements in cost and service. Performance Monitoring And Budget Management Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for transportation operations. Analyze data to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement. Manage carrier scorecards and a performance review process for providers. Implement financial controls around freight audits, claims, accruals, cost reporting to support the company’s financial goals. Report operational performance to executive leadership and recommend actionable solutions. Develop and manage the transportation budget, ensuring alignment with organizational financial goals. Identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining service quality and operational efficiency. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. Commensurate experience may be considered in lieu of formal education. Minimum of 15 years of transportation management experience, with at least 5 years at the Vice President level. Proven track record of leading large-scale transportation and distribution operations, preferably in a geographically-diverse parts management-and-delivery organization. Demonstrated strategic thinking skills and ability to translate vision into actionable plans. Proven experience with TMS implementation and optimization (e.g., Oracle, MercuryGate, Manhattan, SAP TM, etc.). Experience with real-time visibility platforms such as Project44, FourKites, or similar. Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret freight data, develop dashboards, and identify trends to support routing and cost decisions. Deep understanding of domestic freight markets, transportation procurement, and 3PL relationship management. Track record of delivering operational excellence and continuous improvement in service levels, cost savings, and process standardization. Excellent leadership, negotiation, and cross-functional collaboration skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel), transportation reporting tools, and BI platforms (Power BI or similar). Financial acumen and ability to manage large budgets effectively. Ability to lead and inspire teams in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Compensation Posted Salary Range: USD $202,500.00 - USD $270,000.00 /Yr.
