Under the general direction from the Structural Steel paint Supervisor the incumbent acts as Lead and assists the Supervisor in directing the work of Painter engaged in rigging for painting, cleaning and painting structural steel cables, bridges and related structures and facilities. Will lead supervision of inspection duties on contracted out structural steel painting assignments. The Lead Painter has considerable latitude of independent action; supervision received is not subject to direct and continuous control. The Lead Painter receives more direct supervision when dealing with personnel problems and enforcing safety regulations. Must be willing to work non-traditional work schedules to accommodate special events, emergencies or projects that affect the Region or Caltrans.
