Commercial Decarbonization Technical Lead (Commerical Lead) – Hybrid position ideally for people living in eastern Massachusetts. Job type: Full Time. Region: Metro West. Location: Hybrid (Eastern MA). About Abode Energy Management

Summary/Objective Abode has an established line of business administering residential energy efficiency programs and runs utility and government programs to help homeowners and small businesses electrify and decarbonize buildings. The Commercial Decarbonization Technical Lead will provide in-depth technical assistance to Abode team members, consulting with customers and external clients. This is a “player/coach” role to: a) develop consultation protocols and training materials, b) provide ongoing training, review consultation reports, and help ensure report quality, and c) provide consultations directly to customers. This is an opportunity for someone with strong commercial building science and energy efficiency experience to help implement programs that advance electrification impacts. Responsibilities Develop protocols and training materials for consultations and audits. Develop and implement protocols to conduct virtual and on-site assessments that balance traditional commercial energy audits with electrification and decarbonization opportunities aligned to building owners’ goals; train staff and partners in these protocols. Provide quality assurance reviews and coaching to ensure consistency and accuracy across commercial consultations; serve as primary technical support for Decarbonization Consultants and other team members. Conduct decarbonization assessments (majority virtual) with small- to medium-sized commercial buildings; produce reports with opportunities and recommended action plans; coordinate with Program Sponsor service providers to leverage incentives and rebates. Assist with program outreach and development; coordinate across Abode’s decarbonization programs for small/medium commercial clients; build relationships with building owners and stakeholder groups; conduct virtual and in-person presentations; collaborate with partners to develop or adapt educational resources and tools; perform other tasks as assigned by the Manager. Qualifications Strong technical expertise in small- to medium-sized commercial building science and energy efficiency; degree in building science, mechanical engineering, sustainability, or related field is preferred; professional certifications such as CEM, BPI/BPI Multifamily, LEED, or related credentials are desirable. Experience in utility energy efficiency programs, construction, or related fields; direct experience with commercial energy efficiency and decarbonization projects (site assessments, scoping, contract negotiations, installation of measures, commissioning). Experience delivering educational or advisory materials and building relationships with contractors or industry groups; familiarity with government or utility incentive programs. Aptitude for translating industry jargon into clear, concise information; strong oral and written communication skills for 1:1 and group presentations. Spanish or Portuguese proficiency is a plus. Proficiency with software such as Microsoft Office, Salesforce, and energy modeling tools; adaptable, collaborative, and customer-focused; self-starter with ability to manage competing demands and changing schedules. Benefits This is a full-time, exempt position with starting salary targeted between $80K and $90K, depending on relevant skills and experience. The Commerical Lead will primarily work from home with some client visits and occasional meetings in Abode’s Concord, MA office.
