Caltrans is hiring for a Heavy Equipment Mechanic in San Francisco County. This is a permanent, full-time position with posted base pay range of $5,608.00 - $6,723.00. New-to-State candidates will be hired at the minimum of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range when applicable. Within the Division of Equipment (DOE) and under the direction of a Highway Mechanic Supervisor and/or Leadworker, the incumbent will work in a shop and/or field environment, constructing, inspecting, diagnosing, repairing and servicing various equipment used in the Department\'s fleet. Responsibilities include completing records and reports, using computer equipment for various tasks, and potentially instructing or guiding helpers, apprentices or other employees. The incumbent must possess a valid Class C driver license and will be responsible for safe handling of materials, tools, equipment and PPE. There may be travel to field locations or highway maintenance stations and work in inclement weather. Job assignments may include travel, rotation, shift changes and varied work hours.
