Under the direction of the Area Senior Construction Engineer, the incumbent will perform a wide variety of difficult and complex transportation engineering work. Serves as the licensed professional resident engineer on construction projects. Will assign work, give instructions, and make decisions on difficult engineering and administrative problems in directing work on transportation projects. A valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) is required for Range D. Minimum Qualifications and Examinations
Candidates must review the Minimum Qualifications (MQs). If MQs are met under Pattern II and require the TE Civil in-person written hurdle exam, do not take the TE Civil online exam prior to passing the written hurdle. For education requirements, contact the Human Resources Advisor prior to taking the online Training and Experience Evaluation. For ABET accreditation, refer to Find Programs | ABET. Possession of a valid driver’s license is required when operating a State-owned or leased vehicle. Appointment to Range D requires a valid Professional Engineering License (Civil) issued by the California Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. For other ranges, a PE license is not required. Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required (maximum two pages). SOQ should address knowledge of contract administration, Caltrans Construction Manual, Standard Specifications, and cost estimating; and abilities to administer contracts, lead staff, coordinate with contractors, and develop working relationships.
