Overview
NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is a 306-bed medical center, providing care to residents of eastern Long Island. The hospital facility includes the Knapp Cardiac Care Center, an ambulatory surgical pavilion, a Stroke Center, and multiple outpatient sites.
Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Security Guard I - Part Time - Security - Part-Time - 4PM-12AM, Varied Days Off. In this role, the successful candidate patrols hospital buildings and grounds, holds post on an assigned shift protecting patients, visitors, volunteers, employees, and property. Respond to hospital emergencies and provide staff support on access control and special activities as required.
Responsibilities
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Greets patients, visitors, and employees and responds to inquiries in a courteous and prompt manner. Identify self by name clearly and concisely, if requested. Provide directions to visitors as needed. Refer matters outside the scope of own duties to appropriate other, keeping patients and others informed as needed.
- Protect and safeguard hospital properties and installations, as assigned. Patrol surrounding areas to ensure orderliness of the environment; lock and/or open doors, secure restricted areas, check fire hoses, stairwells, etc., in accordance with procedure. Operate and/or monitor security systems (alarms, CCTV, access control, etc.). Maintain the Identification Card system and distribution process, updating existing employee access levels. Provide security escorts as directed.
- Observe visitors to hospital, answer questions, investigate losses, and respond to suspicious or unusual situations in a courteous and efficient manner. Escort unruly or unauthorized personnel from hospital premises. Prepare and submit incident reports to supervisor.
- Explain hospital security policies and procedures to visitors and staff. Maintain hospital package control policy in accordance with established procedure.
- Respond promptly to fire alarms and other emergencies. Direct population to safe areas and assist emergency responders as needed.
- Detain law violators as necessary and, when required, testify for the hospital in related cases. May drive hospital vehicles as assigned.
- Maintain high visibility to deter crime and patrol assigned areas on foot. Confront unauthorized individuals and respond to security-related calls and incidents. Take control of incidents and bring them to a safe conclusion.
- Direct and monitor vehicle traffic to maintain a safe environment and manage traffic during emergencies. Assist patients and staff in navigating the facility and direct to waiting areas as needed. Escort employees, patients, and visitors to parking areas when requested.
- Assist with safety issue identification and communicate findings to Security Manager. Perform related office and record-keeping tasks, including daily logs and incident reports.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Current and valid NYS Security Guard License
- Current and valid CPR and AED certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Current and valid Crisis Prevention/Intervention (CPI) certification (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
- Strong communication (oral and written), interpersonal, and customer service skills
- Required Licenses: Security Guard Reg-NYS
