Overview
Merchant Automotive is looking for an experienced
CNC Machinist / Programmer
to take our machining department to the next level. This is more than a machine operator role — we’re looking for a driven professional who can own the process from concept to completion and help shape the future of our in-house manufacturing.
We design and build high-performance components for Duramax diesel trucks and Allison transmissions. Every part that leaves our shop represents our commitment to precision, durability, and pride in American manufacturing.
Location:
Zeeland, MI
Schedule:
40 hours/week (M–F or 4x10s), no weekends
What You’ll Do
Lead the setup, programming, and operation of
HAAS 3-axis mills, HAAS 3-axis lathe, and manual equipment
Use
Fusion 360
for CAM programming and basic modeling of fixtures, tooling, and parts
Develop and refine
machining processes, tooling strategies, and work holding
for production and prototype work
Collaborate with engineering and product development on manufacturability and design improvements
Ensure part accuracy through hands-on
inspection and quality control
Apply
Lean and 3S principles
to improve workflow, organization, and efficiency
Help build the structure for a scalable, future-ready machining department
What We’re Looking For
Mid to advanced-level CNC machinist/programmer
with a leadership mindset
Strong experience programming in
Fusion 360
and running Haas/Fanuc controls
Proven ability to design, build, and optimize fixtures and processes
Deep understanding of feeds, speeds, tooling, and precision machining principles
Experience implementing
Lean and 3S
improvements in a production setting
Able to mentor others, drive accountability, and lead by example

Pay & Benefits
$28–35/hr starting , depending on experience and capability
Incentive goals and performance rewards as the department grows
