Position Purpose Maintain safety guidelines and provide 24-hour security patrols for campus and off-site facilities, ensuring safety of life and property.
Supervisory & Accountability No supervisory responsibilities.
Scope & Contacts Interact with university executives, staff, students, hospital personnel, and external agencies including law enforcement and security organizations.
Principal Responsibilities
Respond to emergency calls involving criminal activities within jurisdiction.
Apprehend or detain suspects using force only when necessary.
Notify suspects of Miranda rights and report incident details.
Assist in crowd control and large gatherings.
Determine need for additional support and communicate with dispatch or supervisors.
Prepare reports for arrests and incidents.
Patrol assigned areas, enforce laws and regulations.
Investigate disturbances and unusual occurrences.
Assist in evacuations and follow directions from superiors.
Appear in court and hearings as needed.
Core Competencies & Skills
Knowledge of criminal law and law enforcement principles.
Skill in using firearms and police equipment.
Proficiency in English, report writing, and verbal communication.
Ability to handle public relations tactfully.
Successful completion of police academy and physical agility tests.
Ability to investigate crimes, remain emotionally stable, and work flexible hours.
Establish effective work relationships with diverse groups.
Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED, four years of law enforcement/security experience, criminal justice degree or equivalent, U.S. citizenship, clean driving record, ability to pass physical, psychological, and drug tests, police academy completion or ability to complete one, and valid DC firearm commission or ability to obtain within six months.
