Staff Engineer - Finance Data Specialist (Remote)
GEICO is seeking a Finance Data Specialist to support the build out of a Finance Data Warehouse/Lake by partnering with Finance and Technology teams to redesign how they use their technologies in managing GEICO's business. This role requires a strong functional and technical Finance Systems background to drive discussions with the Business to capture, transform, and utilize Finance data to meet Business goals.
Overview The Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and will provide solutions on how to build out, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics, while also supporting the larger Finance organization’s need for Finance data. The role supports the build out of the Finance Data Warehouse/Lake to provide a central repository for all Financial related transactions, enabling a reconciled source of truth for processing and Revenue/Expense analytics. The role also supports the delivery of technology solutions for FP&A Planning/Budgeting, financial reporting, and the data warehouse to enable a reconciled ledger.
Responsibilities
Leverage strong functional and technical systems expertise to drive solutions that meet current and future Finance needs
Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the software lifecycle
Support design sessions to ensure systems are well designed, efficient, and meet business expectations
Collaborate with Finance Leaders (FP&A, Controllers, Financial Reporting, Finance QA & Systems) along with Data Engineering and Finance Technology to meet organizational goals
Establish a vision and technology roadmap to build out a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse
Understand finance data lake/mart concepts with data processing/transformation using ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, DBT)
Design, develop, implement, and maintain data ingestion and transformation projects
Work with cloud data solutions (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi, Snowflake, Redshift or equivalent)
Develop and implement Revenue and Expense analytical solutions
Influence customers and stakeholders and align divergent expectations
Contribute to governance and control framework for SOX and Audit reviews
Engage with Business and Technology discussions to align with long-term Finance and Technology goals
Translate business specifications and change requests into technical specifications
Share best practices and improve processes across teams
Qualifications
15+ years of Finance Systems experience with ERP solutions (e.g., Oracle, Workday, SAP, or PeopleSoft)
3+ years implementing and supporting FP&A applications (preferred)
3+ years experience with a Finance Data Lake/Warehouse/Mart and Financial Reporting tools
Good understanding of Dimensional Data Modeling
Strong knowledge of data processing/transformation using ETL/ELT tools (e.g., Informatica, DBT)
Strong SQL skills to write, debug, and optimize queries and ETL jobs
Experience with Financials via major vendors (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle EBS, Oracle Cloud, Workday, SAP)
Finance domain expertise to translate processes into system solutions
Understanding of FP&A Budgeting, Planning, and forecasting processes
Experience in Revenue or Expense analytics via Power BI, Tableau, etc.
Understanding of accounting processes and reporting expectations
Ability to communicate with users across Technology and Finance
Knowledge of project management techniques and best practices
Strong problem-solving abilities and ability to work in fast-paced environments
SDLC knowledge; ability to work independently and in a team
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education or work experience
Annual Salary $115,000.00 - $260,000.00
