As a Senior Underwriter in the Political Risk and Credit Group in the Americas you will be part of one of AXA XL’s key Specialty Lines insurance businesses and a member of a market leading team recognized globally for its excellence in the industry. Your key tasks will include underwriting business within the agreed business plan and your individual authority; supporting the business planning and forecasting process; monitoring financial exposure within outlined limits; monitoring premium income; maintaining awareness of all claims activity while supporting and providing input on settlement of claims; building and maintaining relationships with brokers and clients; supporting the design and structure of risks and mentoring more junior underwriters. What you’ll be doing Responsibilities

Exercising discretion and self-directed judgment in the analysis and evaluation of risk by reference to business strategy and risk appetite. Working collaboratively in a team environment, assisting underwriters, underwriting assistants and the management team. Analyzing performance of the regional portfolio as well as individual account performance and developing appropriate action to drive profitable growth based upon the analysis. Maintaining compliance with all internal and external underwriting guidelines and legal requirements. Understanding the strategy and targets of AXA XL including financial measures. Planning, developing and integrating distribution & marketing plans to achieve top and bottom-line objectives. Developing and maintaining robust business relationships with key industry groups, brokers and clients in the Americas. Promoting the company's expertise by participating in industry conferences and events while regularly conducting and taking leadership roles in client and broker meetings. Negotiating with brokers to win targeted business at the right price, while declining business that is not in line with strategy or pricing. Operating at all times within defined authority level and in line with AXA XL’s underwriting policies, rules and guidelines, and referral requirements. Developing and driving customer service performance to established standards. Delivering service excellence through effective collaboration including contribution to the recording and maintenance of high-quality data in underwriting systems. Supporting the business planning and forecasting process. Maintaining awareness of claims activity and providing input on claims settlement. Possessing an expert level of technical knowledge and skills including product and industry. You will report to the Underwriting Manager for Americas Political Risk and Credit. What you’ll bring

We’re looking for someone who has these abilities and skills: Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) and Masters (preferred) in business, economics, insurance, international affairs or related field preferred Proven extensive experience in Political Risk and Credit insurance underwriting Possesses demonstrated technical knowledge and skills, including product and industry, reflective of successful progression through various job family levels. Advanced analytical, negotiation and sales/marketing skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Robust organizational, time-management and multi-tasking skills combined with an outstanding work ethic. Interpersonal Savvy - Demonstrated ability to build and maintain robust insured and broker contacts. Ability to develop and understand business processes, strategy and planning. Ability to respond to a changing environment with flexibility and innovation. Collaborative team player who provides creative solutions and ideas for resolution. About AXA XL

The U.S. base salary range for this position is USD 106,500 - 186,500. Actual pay will be determined based upon the individual’s skills, experience and location.
