About the Agency
The Mississippi Workers' Compensation Commission's mission is to efficiently and fairly administer and enforce Mississippi's Workers' Compensation Law by providing a fair forum for claims, ensuring the payment of mandated benefits (medical, wage loss, and rehabilitation) to injured workers, and helping them return to work. The Commission also promotes the prevention of occupational injuries and illnesses and educates the public on workers' compensation in Mississippi.
The Administrative Judge is responsible for presiding over workers’ compensation proceedings inassigned districts. The Administrative Judge conducts hearings, evaluates evidence, and issuesdecisions in accordance with the Mississippi Workers’ Compensation Act, Commission rules, andapplicable case law.The position requires regular presence at the Commission’s office in Jackson, Mississippi, and travelthroughout the state as necessary to conduct hearings.
What you'll need to be Successful
Demonstrated ability to analyze complex legal and factual issues, write clearly, and manage proceedings with impartiality and decorum. Substantial knowledge of workers’ compensation law and practice. Prior judicial, quasi-judicial, or administrative hearing officer experience. Strong organizational and case management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Requires membership in the Mississippi State Bar Association. Agency preferred qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.Active membership in good standing with the Mississippi Bar.At least five years of legal experience, with preference given to candidates with workers’compensation, administrative law, litigation, or judicial experience.
