Overview

Sr. Research Associate 3 role at University of Miami. The Senior Research Associate 3 supports research activities under the direction of a principal investigator, program director or designee of the principal investigator or program director. This role is based in Miami, FL and is full time with the University of Miami's Department of Otolaryngology. Core Job Functions

Contributes to basic and applied research activities by collecting and analyzing data. Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Designs, evaluates, and implements methods and protocols for assigned research projects. Recommends purchase of new equipment for research projects. Writes scientific articles and manuscripts for publication and presentation. Oversees and ensures the safe handling of radioactive and hazardous materials. Prepares analytical reports relative to research data. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets. Core Qualifications

Master’s Degree in relevant field Experience:

Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing data; ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems; ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions. Department Addendum

Core Technical Expertise and Research Competencies:

Proficient in a broad range of advanced laboratory techniques including tissue and cell culture, survival surgeries, and auditory brainstem recordings in experimental animals; skilled in precise anatomical procedures such as inner ear isolation and immunohistological staining of hair cells; adept in establishing and optimizing cell and tissue culture models for drug screening using primary cell lines, ELISA, immunostaining, and high-resolution confocal microscopy. Behavioral and Functional Neuroscience Assessments:

Conducts comprehensive behavioral assays including the three-chamber test for social interaction, marble burying, wood chew, ultrasonic vocalization, elevated plus maze, and pre-pulse inhibition to assess autism-related behaviors and auditory processing in rodent models; applies neurophysiological techniques such as binaural interaction and noise-gap evoked potentials to evaluate central auditory processing. Laboratory Operations and Compliance Leadership:

Independently develops, documents, and maintains laboratory SOPs, experimental protocols, and quality control procedures; responsible for full-spectrum management of animal colonies with adherence to IACUC protocols; leads daily lab operations with a focus on efficiency, compliance, and data integrity; manages lab inspections, safety audits, and institutional compliance activities; participates in outreach efforts and supports collaboration and proposal development. Molecular and Cellular Biology Techniques:

Experienced in isolation of immune cell subsets and protein analysis techniques including chromatography, Western blotting, PCR, and DNA/RNA extraction; conducts flow cytometry, antibiotic resistance profiling, and histopathological assessments. Scientific Communication and Mentorship:

Collaborates with the Principal Investigator on project design and data interpretation; supervises and mentors students and visiting scholars; presents findings at scientific forums and contributes to manuscript preparation. Data Analysis and Reporting:

Interprets complex datasets and compiles detailed reports with data-driven recommendations. Department Specific Qualifications
