We are recruiting for a full-time Police Officer position in Danbury, CT. WCSU has two campuses in Danbury - the Midtown campus, located at 181 White Street and the Westside campus, located at 43 Lake Avenue Extension. Full-time Incumbent must be available to work ALL SHIFTS The incumbent will be responsible for the full range of Police Officer duties Applicants must be a Certified Police Officer in the State of Connecticut OR be eligible to be certified by CT-POST by being a certified police officer in another state Selection Plan

In a state agency, college or university this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the protection, safety and security of individuals and property with full police powers and responsibility for law enforcement. Examples of Duties

Security: Provides crowd control at various events and activities Monitors designated areas to ensure physical security and authorized access Gives directions and routine information to the public Participates in evacuation activities in events of fire, bomb threats or other potential disasters Operates firefighting apparatus if needed May conduct cruiser or foot patrols May conduct bicycle patrols as weather permits Protection: Provides traffic and/or crowd control Assesses nature of further assistance needed and makes timely arrangements May gather background information and provide threat assessments May respond to emergency situations and provide CPR or first aid May transport or escort couriers with currency and prisoners or AWOL persons May assist in search for escaped patients or inmates May assist State Police in investigation of major criminal acts May maintain building security and perform patrol duties under Homeland Security procedures Enforcement: Directs traffic and enforces motor vehicle and parking regulations May initiate and conduct criminal investigations May conduct on-site investigations, question witnesses, arrest individuals, and issue summons Administration: Records information Applies for and serves arrest warrants Processes paperwork on arrests and activity reports Arranges bond payments or WPA Provides court testimony Performs related duties and may serve as dispatcher May conduct safety training and other certifications Connecticut Lottery Corporation / Department of Energy and Environmental Protection: May enforce gaming regulations; may assist in enforcement of laws pertaining to fish, wildlife, parks, forests, etc. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of police and security practices; laws and regulations; traffic and crowd control; criminal law and court procedures Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills Ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of action; utilize computer software Minimum Qualifications

Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut pursuant to CT-POST regulations. Note: Pending certification candidates may be employed temporarily awaiting re-certification. Substitutions

Successful completion of prescribed training and probationary requirements for Protective Services Trainee. Preferred Qualifications

Experience with emergency situations, dispatch, security, law enforcement, customer service Experience using technology, including Microsoft Office and LE software Experience with community policing outreach Special Requirements

Authorized to work in the United States by date of appointment Selection standards per CT statutes and CT POST regulations Must possess and maintain authority to arrest and present before a competent authority within precinct Must possess and maintain CT law enforcement certification; loss of certification may result in removal Must maintain valid driver's license; EMT certification may be required; travel may be required Physical Requirements Good health; physical fitness assessment required; medical examination and drug screening required after conditional offer Working Conditions Exposure to potentially dangerous situations, adverse weather, and confinement within a vehicle for prolonged periods.
