We are recruiting for a full-time Police Officer position in Danbury, CT. WCSU has two campuses in Danbury - the Midtown campus, located at 181 White Street and the Westside campus, located at 43 Lake Avenue Extension. Provide security and policing services to protect individuals and university property. Engage in crowd and traffic control as needed; respond to disturbances and emergencies. Conduct patrols (cruiser, foot, bicycle as weather permits) and surveillance of designated areas. Assist in evacuation activities and coordinate with other agencies as required. Maintain building security and perform patrol duties during heightened security periods. Conduct investigations, gather information, and provide appropriate threat assessments. Provide CPR/first aid in emergencies and support transportation or escort of detainees when required. Maintain records, issue notices or warrants as needed, and participate in relevant safety and crime prevention programs. Assist in special programs, projects, and services as required. Knowledge, Skill and Ability
Knowledge of police and security practices and procedures; knowledge of relevant state and federal laws, statutes, and regulations. Knowledge of traffic and crowd control practices; understanding of criminal law and court procedures. Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills. Ability to analyze emergency situations and develop effective courses of action; ability to utilize computer software. Minimum Qualifications
Certification as a law enforcement officer in the State of Connecticut pursuant to regulations promulgated by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. NOTE: Candidates with a pending certification status may be employed on a temporary basis pending re-certification by the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. Substitutions Allowed
Successful completion of prescribed training and probationary requirements set forth in the class of Protective Services Trainee. Preferred Qualifications
Experience with emergency situations Experience with Dispatch, Security, Law Enforcement Experience providing good customer service Experience using technology, including Microsoft Office and Law Enforcement Software Experience with community policing outreach Special Requirements
Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States by date of appointment. Candidates for this class are subject to selection standards pursuant to Connecticut statutes and Police Officer Standards and Training Council regulations. Incumbents must possess and maintain authority to arrest and present before a competent authority any person for offenses within their precinct. Incumbents must possess and maintain CT certification as a law enforcement officer; loss of certification results in removal from the class. Incumbents may be required to travel and may need to obtain EMT certification; must possess a valid driver’s license and other department-specific certifications as required. Employment may require flexible scheduling and other department requirements. Physical Requirements
General good health and fitness; ability to perform duties requiring strength, stamina, agility, endurance, and adequate visual and auditory acuity. A physical fitness assessment will be required of all applicants. A comprehensive medical examination, including a controlled substance screening, will be required of all applicants upon a conditional offer of employment. Ability to pass a swim test (100 yards within four minutes). Working Conditions
