Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) is a constituent unit of the Board of Regents for Higher Education (BOR), Connecticut State Colleges and Universities. WCSU offers undergraduate and graduate programs and is recruiting for a full-time Police Officer position in Danbury, CT. The university has two campuses in Danbury: the Midtown campus (181 White Street) and the Westside campus (43 Lake Avenue Extension). The University Police Department serves both campuses. The class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in protection, safety and security with full police powers and responsibility for law enforcement in a state agency, college or university. Examples of Duties

Security, Protection, Enforcement and Administration responsibilities may include the following. Security: crowd control, monitoring designated areas, directing the public, evacuation support, potential firefighting duties, patrols as directed. Protection: traffic/crowd control, assess needs, gather background information, threat assessments, respond to emergencies, CPR/first aid, escort duties, search support, coordination with State Police, building security during heightened alerts. Enforcement: direct traffic, criminal investigations, on-site investigations, questioning witnesses, arresting individuals, issuing summons. Administration: records management, warrants, paperwork processing, bond handling, court testimony, training, supervising roles, dispatcher duties, and related duties. Special Requirements

Authorized to work in the United States by date of appointment. Subject to selection standards under CT statutes and POLICE OFFICER STANDARDS and TRAINING COUNCIL regulations. Maintain authority to arrest and present cases within precinct; maintain CT law enforcement certification; loss of certification may result in removal. Maintain valid driver’s license; EMT certification may be required; eligibility to bear arms; travel may be required. Physical and Medical Requirements

General health and fitness standards; physical details and vision/hearing requirements; a fitness assessment for all applicants. Medical examination, including substance screening, required upon conditional offer. For Department of Energy and Environmental Protection: swim test (100 yards within 4 minutes) may be required. Working Conditions
