The Department of Communication Sciences and Special Education at the University of Georgia invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the assistant professor rank in the area of Special Education Adapted Curriculum to begin August 1, 2026. The Department seeks to hire a motivated faculty member with research and teaching interests broadly positioned within special education for students with moderate to severe disabilities, including but not limited to secondary-aged students, post-secondary transition, and/or adapting general education curriculum. Duties/Responsibilities
Establish a high-quality, coherent line of research, including publishing peer-reviewed scholarly articles in highly regarded journals. Seek external funding for research projects and/or educational programs. Teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Advise graduate students and direct thesis and dissertation research. Support the special education program through ongoing service. Serve the institution and profession. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
An earned doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in special education or a related field by the start date. Additional Requirements: Evidence of high-quality research or evidence of potential to do so. Demonstrated ability to secure external funding or evidence of potential to do so. Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification: Experience teaching at least one special education course at the undergraduate and graduate level. Three years of P-12 teaching, or equivalent experience. Specialization in one or more of the following areas: secondary-aged students with moderate to severe disabilities, post-secondary transition, or adapting general education curriculum.
