Director of Finance at Flyland Recovery Network We are seeking a detail-oriented and reliable
Remote Payroll Specialist
to join our finance team. This role is responsible for managing and processing multi-state payrolls accurately and on time, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. The Payroll Specialist will also act as a key point of contact for employee payroll-related inquiries and support continuous improvement of payroll processes. Responsibilities
Payroll & Contractor Payments Accurately process payroll for
700+ employees nationwide , including both
W-2 employees and 1099 contractors . Manage and reconcile payroll across
multiple timesheet systems
and independent platforms. Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, shift differentials, and incentive pay for clinical and non-clinical staff. Process and review
invoices for 1099 contractors , ensuring proper documentation and timely payment. Compliance & Accuracy Maintain compliance with
federal, state, and local payroll/tax regulations
across multiple states. Ensure correct classification and handling of W-2 employees vs. 1099 contractors. Stay updated on industry-specific regulations affecting payroll in healthcare and behavioral health organizations. Support and prepare for audits, tax filings, and year-end reporting (W-2s, 1099s, etc.). Data & Systems Management Maintain accurate employee and contractor records in payroll systems. Reconcile payroll data between timekeeping, HR, and accounting systems. Generate detailed reports for HR, Finance, and executive leadership on labor costs, contractor invoices, and payroll metrics. Employee & Contractor Support Serve as the point of contact for payroll and payment-related inquiries. Resolve discrepancies related to timekeeping, paychecks, invoices, and deductions. Provide guidance to employees and contractors on payroll processes, tax documentation, and direct deposits. Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field (preferred). 2–4 years of payroll processing experience. Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements. Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., Paylocity, ADP, Paycom, Workday, or similar). Strong Excel and data management skills. Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication skills and ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality. Preferred Skills Experience with multi-state payroll processing. Knowledge of benefits administration and HRIS systems. Payroll certification (e.g., CPP or FPC) a plus. Seniorities
