Description of Job Duties: The Senior Attorney hired by the FPSC will work in the Economic Regulation Section of the Office of General Counsel. This Section handles legal work for the Commission concerning ratemaking, certification, and territorial issues in the water, wastewater, electric, and gas industries. The Senior Attorney will appear primarily before the Florida Public Service Commission. Responsibilities include: Evaluate issues and conduct complex legal research; apply research to issues. Conduct investigations and discovery; present evidence; advocate positions at hearings (oral and written). Communicate effectively verbally and in writing; work collaboratively on a team. Assist in drafting recommendations, pleadings, and written Commission orders with appropriate technical staff. Minimum Qualifications
Admission to The Florida Bar and two years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial meetings. Background investigations, including criminal history record checks and education verifications, will be conducted on all applicants recommended for hiring. You may be required to provide your Social Security Number for this background check. Federal law requires all employers to verify the identity and employment eligibility of all persons hired to work in the United States. The FPSC participates in the E-Verify program. Civil Service Law requires male applicants born after December 31, 1959, to register with the Selective Service System unless exempt.
