About the Office
Office of General Counsel provides legal counsel to the Commission on matters within the Commission’s jurisdiction. It defends Commission orders on appeal, defends rules challenged in administrative proceedings, and represents the Commission before courts. The office assists with filings to other agencies, advises on rulemaking, and reviews procurement contracts. It also handles discovery, presents staff positions, cross-examines witnesses, and prepares recommendations and orders. Description of Job Duties
The Senior Attorney will work in the Regulatory Analysis Section of the Office of General Counsel. This section handles legal work for Telecommunications, Renewable Energy, Energy Conservation, Storm Protection, Natural Gas Safety, enforcement and ratemaking for small Water and Wastewater Utilities, and related areas. The Senior Attorney will primarily appear before the FPSC. Requirements include strong working knowledge of the Florida Administrative Procedure Act, Uniform Rules of Procedure, Florida Civil Procedure, and Florida Evidence Code. Responsibilities include evaluating issues, conducting complex legal research, investigations and discovery, presenting evidence, advocating positions at hearings (oral and written), and effective communication. Flexible work schedule may be available depending on management. Minimum Qualifications
Admission to The Florida Bar and two years of professional legal experience, including legal research, teaching law, or related administrative or judicial experience. Information verifying answers to Qualifying Questions must be found on the Employment Application. Employment Eligibility and EEO/AA
